About

I think of art as not as a single practice, but as several interlocking ones. Concept, research, planning and execution are part of a whole that informs images whether moving or static.

I was trained as an artist and received an MFA from California Institute of the Arts. But I spent more than three decades as a commercial film-maker. I was most often a director, but also a writer and designer. During this part of my career, I was the creator of Operation Dragon, an epic graphic novel that was published in August, 2021 by Dark Horse Books.

In all these endeavors, the creation of imagery involved many disciplines and skills. I’ve been fortunate to work with teams of very talented people, and have learned a tremendous amount from these collaborations. I’ve also been fortunate to be exposed to many artists that have inspired and influenced me, including Lazlo Moholy-Nagy, Jenny Holzer, Barbara Krueger, and El Lissitzsky.

Now, a few years into my life as an artist, I draw upon all this experience to create work that is not designed to sell a product or even a particular idea. My interest is in uncovering the essential, ineffable nature of human thought and reality.
